Dr. Butchart graduated in 1987 from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a BS in Pharmacy. After practicing as a Pharmacist for two years, he decided to return to Dental School. Dr. Butchart graduated from the State University of New York School of Dental medicine in 1995. He then completed a general practice residency at the VA Medical center in Bay Pines, Florida before completing a three year residency in Orthodontics at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. While a resident Dr. Butchart was selected as Chief Resident by the program director and received the Leo M. Davidoff award from the Albert Einstein School of Medicine for his efforts in the teaching of other residents two consecutive years. After graduation Dr. Butchart was selected by the program Director to return and teach at the program as the associate director for the next year. His training at Montefiore also included extensive exposure to craniofacial disorders and surgical orthodontics.
Dr. Butchart is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. While Board certification is not mandatory, Dr. Butchart felt it necessary to complete the rigorous process involved in Board Certification to enhance his education. Dr. Butchart recently completed the first re-certification exam on his first attempt which is a new requirement for all Diplomates who received their certification after 2000.
During his third year of orthodontics he coauthored a paper on the correction of Overbites which was published in the Orthodontic Journal "Seminars in Orthodontics".
Dr. Butchart is a member of the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists. He is one of a few Orthodontists in the state that dedicates several days a month treating economically disadvantaged children through the state of Florida.
Dr. Butchart has two children; Zachary and Harrison and enjoys exploring the beauty of Florida.
